Natural Beauty Basics for Healthy, Young Skin

November 13, 2018 sjpoff
Natural Beauty Basics.png

I used to feel really overwhelmed with skin care regimens that I just avoided them altogether. But as I’m coming up on my 40th birthday in a few months, I realize that it’s time for me to start really taking this seriously. Not so much for outer beauty but to nourish myself from the outside in as well as from the inside out that I’m already doing.

I just attended a Beauty School weekend course where I learned simple, natural ways to incorporate a basic, effective skin care regimen. So in this post, I’m going to show you how simple it is to have the best skin possible without toxic ingredients. Because toxic is not beautiful. We do not have to poison our body to have beautiful skin. In fact, the healthier our body care products are, the more beautiful our skin would be.

The Basics

So let’s first discuss the basic everyday skin care regimen. This should consist of three steps:

  1. Cleanse

  2. Tone

  3. Moisturize

Cleansing removes impurities and excess oils. Toning balances the pH of our skin and helps achieve optimal pore size. Moisturizing is like drinking water and is essential for keeping skin soft, supple, and tight.

I did a Facebook live going over these basics and the most natural, therapeutic product options for these steps here:

As this video explains, exfoliating and beauty masques are a really great way to boost facial skin health by doing them 1-2x/week.

You can find more information on these products in the links below:

From the Inside Out

It’s important to first remember that our skin health is indicative of our inner health. Beautiful skin starts first and foremost with a healthy lifestyle, including:

  • Staying hydrated (with filtered/spring water that is not chlorinated or fluoridated)

  • Staying active (sweating!)

  • Maintaining a healthy diet full of organically-grown vegetables, fruits, good fats, and healthy protein

  • Avoiding personal care products with hormone-disrupting chemicals like parabens, pthalates, synthetic fragrances, etc.

  • Supporting liver health for continuous detoxification of toxins and excess hormones (Click here for my full article on the best ways to support liver detoxification.)

  • Having healthy emotions

Supporting liver health is especially important for those who are combating the brown spots on the skin (aka liver or sun spots). This includes avoiding medications and alcohol as well as taking liver-supporting supplements.

Let Your Skin Breathe

When a woman applies suffocating makeup to her skin on a regular basis, her skin is not able to breathe. This creates a buildup of impurities, toxins, etc. under the skin on the face. Aside from the effects of these chemicals circulating the bloodstream and contributing to hormone problems and cancer, these things will create a vicious cycle of skin blemishes.

Avoiding conventional makeup products are key, but even “natural” makeup products contain things like bismuth and talc that prevent our skin from breathing. For years, I just avoided makeup because I didn’t want toxins on my face but felt overwhelmed trying to find a great option.

I haven’t found a cleaner makeup line than the Savvy makeup! It contains none of those harmful ingredients, not even bismuth like most of the other natural makeup lines. This allows skin to breathe and reduces blemishes.

Those are your beauty basics! I hope that helps you on your natural lifestyle journey! Please feel free to reach out to me if you are just starting this journey and would like some personalized direction for getting started!

Blessings of good health,
