Let's talk about some important tips for starting! But first, some housekeeping:

Onto the intro things to know first and foremost!
Quality/Purity is CRUCIAL
Please do not use the information and protocols in this class with any essential oils besides Young Living. The reason there are alarming posts on essential oils killing animals is because people are using what they think for themselves are safe brands rather than going with one that has been proven to be safe over and over.
That leads me to my next point:
Myth or Truth?
There are a lot of myths out there about essential oils and animals. Some, like the myth that EO's are dangerous for pets, stem from people using adulterated oils on pets.
This is the case with other myths too like when people say not to use tea tree oil with pets or how cats can't detox well.

As long as you are using Young Living essential oils, there is a lot of safe room for experimentation.
While Young Living does have a line of Animal Scents essential oils, all of Young Living's oils can be used with animals.

iTOVi: This galvanic skin response device has been hands down my favorite tool for living the natural health life and it can be used with animals! We use this to scan our people and animals whenever something is wrong (and just for daily health maintenance) and it tells us exactly what oils and/or supplements are most needed. It is incredibly accurate. It can be hard to use with cats since they don't usually have areas of open skin but it works well on most dogs' bellies, in the ear for long-eared rabbits, and on the udder or tailhead with goats. Body Condition & Raw Food Basics
Most pet owners see a cat or dog that is a healthy body condition and think that they are skinny.
According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, an estimated 54 percent of pets in the United States are overweight or obese.
Overweight pets are at risk for a variety of health problems, including skin infections, high blood pressure, heart disease, immune suppression, diabetes, orthopedic and arthritic disorders and even some forms of cancer, as well as increased surgical and anesthetic risk.
Weight loss can help improve the quality of your pet’s life in a number of ways It can decrease the stress on joints (especially important for pets with arthritis), help facilitate examination and surgical procedures, improve cardiovascular function, enhance athleticism and reduce or eliminate the need for certain medications required to manage medical disorders.
In addition, a recent study has shown that dogs maintained at their ideal body weight for life lived almost two years longer than moderately obese dogs. Plus, they will feel much better!
Use this graphic to assess your pet's body condition and consider dietary changes as needed to improve their body condition.

Speaking of dietary changes, let's chat quickly about the best diet for dogs & cats! A "raw food diet" or "species-appropriate diet" is the best way to proactively maintain optimal pet health.
This type of diet helps prevent or reduce many common health issues like:
❌ Yeast
❌ Allergies
❌ Obesity
❌ Rubbing anal glands on floor
❌ Weak immune system
❌ Fleas
❌ Lyme Disease
❌ UTI's
Raw food diets help reduce vet bills and my personal favorite, no more stinky poop! Raw-fed dogs/cats have poop that dries up and decomposes after a few days!
One other thing: Pets fed a diet solely of raw food have very little shedding or dander, making it a fabulous option for those who are allergic to pets!

GOATS!
Where are my goat friends at?!! Yeah I'm kinda weird but if you've ever had a goat, you know why they're so lovable! If you have goats, you CAN raise them holistically and it's really quite easy!
For the first year, I struggled with parasite problems and some other issues until I started really using my YL products on them. All the herbal products I was buying seemed to do nothing (or maybe even make matters worse!). The natural goat group I was in kept pushing herbal dewormers even though they weren't working, so I didn't know what to do!
I finally discovered the power of ParaFree for goat deworming and life with goats has been so much easier since then!
There are other things we've found along the way, like Thieves spray on the udder for preventing/treating staph, Thieves oil on an injection site wound from a goat we were given, and more.

Chickens & Ducks
We have had chickens and ducks (and now a goose) for over six years and always raised them holistically. When I hear of health issues that other poultry-owners have, I am usually not very aware of those things as they tend to not happen at all in animals raised holistically with proactive action.
Here are some of the ways we raise our birds holistically:
--ParaGize oil (1-3 drops in every gallon of water)
--Oregano oil (1-3 drops in water every couple weeks for a few days)
--Organic raw apple cider vinegar in their water
I also give them homemade yogurt that I make with Life 9 capsules. (My recipe: https://www.healthyfamiliesforgod.com/blog/2016/05/thick-homemade-raw-goats-milk-yogurt?rq=yogurt )
These things help:
--Keep parasites down/away
--Keep salmonella and e.coli away
--Prevent yeast infections
--Give them better growth rate
--Prevent common bird respiratory illnesses
It's okay if the oils don't mix in the water fully but if you'd like it to, you can mix them in organic food-grade glycerin and then mix that into their water.

Holistic Horses
In a healthy world, horses naturally come into contact with essential oils every day by grazing on live plants, scratching on bark, or eating herbs/grasses. Many flavorings in horse feed such as anise, fennel, peppermint, etc. come from essential oils as well.
These days, more and more equines are kept in unnatural surroundings or are given more unnatural feed products that require the support of natural methods such as essential oils and nutritional supplements.
In addition to the things we've talked about this month such as Thieves Cleaner for washing the body, hooves, and surfaces, as well as the nutritionals, these are some of the helpful favorites for horses.
Peppermint is often placed in water troughs or buckets to assist in digestion, avoid colic, and to cool horses in hot weather.
DiGize is a must-have for addressing colic naturally (in addition to veterinary help). 15 drops of DiGize can be given internally every hour or so as needed in addition to massaging 10 drops up each flank and toward the umbilical area as well as 10 drops around the coronet band.
OrthoEase massage oil is prediluted blend of anti-inflammatory and analgesic (pain-killing) oils like wintergreen, peppermint, juniper, and marjoram. This blend is ideal for strained, swollen, or torn muscles and ligaments. It also combats insect bites, dermatitis, and itching.
Use Lavender to calm and/or Valor for courage before performances, trailering, riding lessons, etc.
Purification repels bugs as well as disinfects and cleans cuts, scrapes, and bites.
Things to have on hand (besides the things we've already covered)!
Inner Defense is my go-to natural antibiotic. For pets, we use it for any kind of infection. It boosts the immune system as well as provides amazing antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral actions. It is most commonly used in pets for infections, cystitis, and bladder infections.
K & B tincture is important to have on hand in case of a urinary tract infection. The initials stand for Kidney & Bladder so it is good for all conditions related to the kidney and bladder including UTI's, bladder stones, urinary crystals, cystitis, kidney problems, fluid retention, and more. This tends to be one of the most common things I've had to share with local people since UTI's come up quickly and many people don't know to have this on hand.
Life 9 is important for anything viral, fungal, or bacterial as beneficial probiotics are crucial for protecting our body from those things and fighting them off.
Reducing Dander/Shedding
Did you know that more production of dander and more shedding in animals is a sign of less-than-ideal health?
Pets with absorbable nutrients on a species-appropriate diet and without toxins/medications rarely shed and have so much less dander that even many people who are "allergic" to pets do not react to those pets.
The biggest part of reducing dander and shedding is a species appropriate diet (raw food diet). We'll cover this in depth on the 30th.
Brushing your pet according to their breed will help reduce the amount of fur that is shed all over the home.
Make sure your pet groomer uses Young Living or other natural products for grooming to help keep their skin and hair follicles healthy and free of toxins.
Supplement with good fats like virgin coconut oil and omegas from fish oil.
Reduce toxins in/around the home.
The question has come up: “Can I use the pet CBD for myself too?” Yes, you can. It’s just a lower potency and plain (unflavored). And BTW: You CAN order the CBD Nature’s Ultra product’s NOW! Yeast is the culprit behind a large amount of health issues in pets and it's because they aren't meant to consume starches, especially in the quantities they are given nowadays. Symptoms of yeast overgrowth in pets include:
Head shaking (yeast in ears)
Scaly or greasy skin
Scratching, rubbing, or licking skin
Hair loss
Yeast overgrowth can also be caused by antibiotic use.
So how do we treat it?
Eliminate foods high in starches. Beware: Even grain-free foods are often high in starches as they use potatoes or peas for the main fillers. A species-appropriate diet is best and we'll cover that in-depth on the 30th. Look for treats low in starch as well.
Offer Life 9 and/or unsweetened yogurt/milk kefir daily.
Use the ear spray recipe posted on the 11th for yeast in the ears.
Bathe with Animal Scents Shampoo mixed with Thieves Household Cleaner.
Give Inner Defense internally (I mix it in with yogurt).
Aging Pets
Just like people, extra health support is needed with aging. Senior pets especially tend to need extra help staying comfortable.
FOR ARTHRITIS OR GENERAL JOINT SUPPORT:
--Sulfurzyme: 1 capsule per 15 lbs (once or twice daily)Sulfurzyme contains MSM which is a natural anti-inflammatory. Joined with NingXia wolfberry, this product far surpasses any other MSM on the market with greater bioavailability. Sulfurzyme is incredibly helpful in cases of arthritis, all forms of skin conditions, autoimmune diseases, healing of wounds, and just general cell structure and function.
--NingXia Red: 1/2 to 1 ounce dailyNingXia Red provides the antioxidants to reduce inflammation and free radicals for slowing down the degenerative process.
--BLM: 1 capsule for every 50 pounds, 2 times dailyBLM stands for Bones, Ligaments, and Muscles. BLM is indicated for arthritis, joint discomfort, prevention of joint problems, muscular conditions, broken bones, etc.
--Copaiba and helichrysum oils internally (1-2 drops for every 25 pounds, 2 times daily) to help reduce inflammation
For topical treatment, use blends like PanAway, Relieve It, Deep Relief, Cool Azul, Cool Azul Pain Cream, Ortho Ease Massage Oil, Ortho Sport Massage Oil, and Regenolone Moisturizing Cream.
FOR DETERIORATING EYESIGHT:
NingXia Red (double dosage from what is listed above)Longevity oil internally (2 drops per 50 pounds 1-2x/day)
A great way to use essential oils with cats is in the litterbox. Most cat litter products contain toxic chemical fragrance which is very harmful to cats. Be sure to use a completely natural fragrance free cat litter. And be careful because "unscented" doesn't always mean it is fragrance free! (We get a plain clay cat litter in big bags at PetSmart.)
Add a few drops of YL essential oil to baking soda, and sprinkle in the litter box for a fresher litter box. This also helps slowly get cats used to essential oils. Avoid oils like oregano, cinnamon, clove, etc. for this purpose. Some of the oils I like for this are Purification, pine, citronella, and juniper.
(And remember that this information is only for using YL oils! Other company oils can be extremely dangerous for pets, especially cats! Purity is everything!)
Seedlings wipes aren't just for human babies! They are a gentle, healthy, toxin-free way to keep those pet paws clean! Vegan friendly, this mild and gentle formula contains cleansing botanicals and 100 percent pure essential oils and is specially formulated to minimize the risk of common allergic reactions.They are biodegradable and smell amazing!
Other uses for Seedlings wipes:
Place a wipe in dresser drawers, underneath pet beds, in vehicles, in garbage can, etc. to eliminate odors and leave the area smelling absolutely heavenly!
Do you have a dog that is a chronic chewer or that has frequent anxiety?
Mineral Essence is what they need!
Minerals are critical to every function in the body and are especially indicated in conditions of anxiety, behavioral concerns, immune dysfunction, and nerve/brain function (for people and pets!).
The need to chew on things obsessively can often be attributed to a mineral deficiency which is common in dogs fed kibble.
The suggested dosage is around 1 dropperful of Mineral Essence per 30-50 pounds when mineral support is needed. Some may need more and some may need less.
---->>> For chewers, be sure to also give them good chew objects such as marrow bones, elk antlers, etc.

For dogs with anxiety, you can also use the following blend to apply as needed when petting the dog:
10 drops lavender
5 drops sandalwood
10 drops Roman Chamomile
5 drops Geranium

Thieves Household Cleaner should be mandatory for every home or farm, with or without animals! Read the many reasons why below!
Veterinarians have documented the resolution of abnormal blood values and chronic conditions when toxic household cleaners and chemicals were exchanged for Thieves Cleaner!
--->> It's for so much more than cleaning too! <<----
This cleaner is safe enough for them to lick up, which they often do! My goats and our dog will lick the containers out when we're cleaning them with Thieves HHC!
Thieves Cleaner disinfects and gets the bacteria we can't see but without the harmful effects of other cleaners!
Some of my favorite uses for THCC with animals are:
➡️ Cleaning food/water containers
➡️️ Cleaning surfaces in the barn, coop, kennel, show stalls, animal trailers, etc.
➡️ Use as a spray for goat udders
➡️ Use as a soak for horse/goat hooves (esp with hoof rot or hoof abscess)
➡️ Disinfecting/cleaning the cat litterbox
➡️ Cleaning up pet accidents (on hard surfaces as well as carpet)--Can be used in carpet cleaner machines!
➡️ Wound cleaning/Disinfectant
➡️ Bath with THCC for animals with fleas, lice, mange, skin infections, ringworm, etc. (Purposely leave behind residue without rinsing off for helping with fleas and lice.)
➡️ Spray on as an insect repellent
A little goes a long way, so this is a great simple way to have healthier pets! The large 64 oz bottle of Thieves Cleaner is a cost savings of $0.19/oz so if you'll need more, consider the big bottle!
One of the questions I get asked often is about vaccines. Because this is a subject that each pet owner has to research and decide on themselves, I prefer to avoid offering guidance on it. However, there are some ways to prevent your animal from the common risks of vaccines:
1. Only get the vaccines absolutely needed. Look at which ones are required by your city. Consider finding a vet who will do the three-year options (after the initial 1-year ones) and/or run titer testing instead. 2. Utilize a holistic regimen before and after vaccination to reduce risk of side effects/complications.
--NingXia Red (as directed in yesterday's post)
--Rehemogen: This is a liquid herbal tincture used to cleanse, purify, and build the blood. It is used most commonly in cats and dogs to detoxify, especially after vaccines.
For cats: 1 dropper per day for up to 14 days after vaccines.
For dogs:
Small (up to 20 lbs): 1 dropper for up to 14 days
Medium (20-50 lbs): 1 dropper for up to 40 days
Large (50-100 lbs): 1 dropper for up to 55 days
If more detoxification/liver support is needed, use Juva Cleanse Vitality oil interally for dogs and topically for cats (they will lick it off of their fur).
NingXia Red for animals!
You've discovered the amazing antioxidant health power of NingXia Red for the people in your home; why not give your pets the same health boost too?
Dogs tend to LOVE NingXia Red! Our Aussie puppy has slurped it up quickly since she was a tiny puppy.
NingXia Red is good for so many things that it is impossible to list them all! In any condition, you can guarantee that the addition of NR to the regimen will beneficial. But don't wait for a health issue to arise to give your pets the proactive power of it!
---->> If your pet has to receive a vaccination, NingXia Red is a crucial part of helping protect the pet's body from the toxins and potential adverse effects of the vaccine.
(Additionally, use the Raindrop mixture for cats on dogs or cats before and after vaccination to help prevent side effects and toxicity from vaccines.)
Some cats love NingXia Red and some loathe it. Those of you who have cats know how picky they can be... You can mix it into their food or water if they don't like it straight.
FOR GENERAL MAINTENANCE:
Cats: 1/2 tsp NR per day (or as needed)
Dogs:
Small dogs (up to 20 lbs): 1/4 ounce (8 ml) per day
Medium dogs (20-50 lbs): 1/2 ounce (15 ml) per day
Large dogs (50-100 lbs): 3/4 ounce (23 ml) per day
Extra large dogs: 1 ounce per day
Senior dogs with any sort of health complaint can generally receive double maintenance amounts on a long term basis or as needed.
Horses, goats, and cattle often love NingXia Red too! It is especially helpful if vaccination is needed or during injury/illness.
Hot spots (pyotraumatic dermatitis/wet eczema) are a common issue for dogs unfortunately and it can be hard to treat.
To successfully treat hot spots, we have to work on the root cause while giving the sweet furry friend some topical relief as well.
Hot spots can be triggered by anything that damages the immune system, including vaccines, conventional flea/heartworm treatments, kibble/conventional dog food, etc.
To restore the immune system, we want to heal from the inside out.
FOR LONG-TERM HEALING:
--Allerzyme (1 per 10 lbs; 12 daily max)
--Sulfurzyme: 2 capsules per 20 lbs or 1/2 tsp every 6 hours
--Life 9: 1 per 50 lbs daily
--Longevity oil: 2 drops daily
A raw food diet is highly recommended; grain-free diet is the second choice but be careful in choosing grain-free food as many are still high in starches (such as potatoes) which feeds fungal growth that can make hot spots worse.
FOR TOPICAL SUPPORT:
Hot spots are in need of drying so ointments are not a good option in this case. Use these tips for topical relief and healing of hot spots:
--Apply copaiba directly to hot spot three times daily.
--Skin spray recipe:
8 drops Copaiba
14 drops Lavender
10 drops Tea Tree
Combine in a 4 ounce glass spray bottle and fill with distilled water. Shake well and spray on skin as needed, generally 1-4 times daily.
Bathe every 3-5 days with Animals Scents Shampoo.
Cistus--the must-have emergency oil to have on hand!
Cistus is a must for every home, especially those with pets. The two main reasons to have it on hand in your first-aid kit are:
Stop bleeding
Cistus oil is phenomenal for stopping bleeding, everything from a cut to hemorrhaging. (Our RCD used this oil when she was hemorrhaging from an ectopic pregnancy bursting and it saved her life!)
Some holistic veterinarians place a drop or two of cistus oil in an animal's mouth before surgery to prevent hemorrhaging.
2 ) Tick bites
If you search this group for info on cistus or Lyme's disease, you'll find research showing that cistus oil prevents the Lyme bacteria from adhering to cells. We apply a drop of citus topically to a tick bite multiple times daily for a few days after a tick bite and use it internally as well.
We don't want to put essential oils straight into an animal's ears, but when a pet has yeast or mite issues or an infection in the ear, we can use our oils still!
Mix the ingredients shown in the picture to create a handy ear spray to have on hand! To use, shake well, and spray into the ear once or twice a day. You are not attempting to fill the ear with the solution and should aim to coat the skin and canal area with the spray.
You can also apply any of these oils onto a cotton ball and rub into the ear, making sure the oils don't drip down into the ear canal.
If an animal is having chronic ear issues, it's also important to get to the root (since that's what holistic health is all about!). If it's chronic yeast or infections, consider giving the animal Life 9 and/or unsweetened dairy kefir daily.
Bug-Free Insides!
Worms can have a serious health effect on dogs and cats, so intestinal worming should never be overlooked.
Most worms are identified by the presence of their eggs in a pet's feces. These eggs are very small and are difficult to identify by eye.
Tapeworms and Roundworms are two of the few that can be seen by eye. Tapeworms look like small pieces of rice and can be found in the feces or around the tail and rear area, sometimes clinging to hair. For this reason you may see your dog scoot his rear across the ground as the worms can be irritating.
Roundworms are long white worms that look like noodles or spaghetti. Occasionally puppies may vomit these up or they can also be seen in feces.
Cats may exhibit the following symptoms of roundworm infestation:
A very full or pot-bellied appearance that occurs in a short amount of time
Regular vomiting
Frequent loose stools or diarrhea
A decrease in energy or activity
For general parasite cleansing:
(Preferably start protocol on a full moon)
PARAFREE
For dogs: 1 per 50 lbs twice a day
(Length of treatment depends on results of fecal tests.)
For cats: 1-3 drops of ParaFree contents dripped into mouth (will make cat salivate and be angry!)
or for cats: Kitty Cocktail Deworming Recipe
1/2 ounce of NingXia Red
1 tsp distilled water
1 capsule of ParaFree (cut open and contents squeezed out)
1 capsule of MultiGreens (opened and mixed in)
Mix well before use. Refrigerate. Give 2-3 ml of this twice a day to dogs/cats. Give for one week or as stool samples show need.
For Heartworm
ParaFree has been shown to help eliminate the microfilaria (baby heartworms) from the bloodstream of positive dogs. For regular prevention:
Small dogs up to 20 lbs: Give 1/2 to 1 capsule of ParaFree 2-3 times a week during heartworm season.
Medium dogs 20-50 lbs: Give 1 capsule of ParaFree 2-3 times a week during heartworm season.
Large dogs over 50 lbs: Give 2-3 capsules of ParaFree daily, split into several doses. Repeat this administration 2-3 times a week during heartworm season.
Regular monitoring and a species-appropriate diet is recommended for optimal proactive health.

GROSS but these roundworms CAN be passed to people, so if you have pets, consider using ParaFree regular for your people too!

Bug-Free Outsides
Dealing with outer pests can be tough with our furry friends! Fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, etc. are a pain for people and pets.
Animal Scents Shampoo is not only a toxin-free pet shampoo but it also contains essential oils designed to help keep your pet an unlikely host to pests like fleas!
YL's Insect Repellent is also a healthy alternative to traditional bug sprays for your furry friends! It was designed to repel not just mosquitoes but ticks (thanks to the geranium in it!) and fleas!
I like putting it in a spray bottle or grabbing a spray top for the bottle and spraying on your pet. You can also put some in your hand and rub into your pet's fur.
If your pet will be walking in a wooded area, I would rub some into their legs as well.
Keep in mind that a pet is less susceptible to fleas if their immune system is strong, so continue to stay tuned for ways to help them have a strong immune system and be less likely to get fleas!
There couldn't be a better, healthier option to get out the pet stinkies than Young Living!
Our favorites for helping get out the pet odors are Purification and Citrus Fresh. You can diffuse them and/or make a room/linen spray.
My favorite linen spray is:
10 drops Purification
10 drops Lavender
Mix in a 4-ounce spray bottle with water. Shake and spray on any/all surfaces, even stinky wet dogs!
---->> You can also add a few drops of Purification into your laundry to help with stinky pet laundry! Add to laundry soap or my favorite--add a few drops onto a wool dryer ball and throw into the dryer with *dry* clothes on no heat for 10 minutes.

Kitty Raindrop Technique:
A SIMPLE YET POWERFUL TOOL FOR ANY HOLISTIC CAT CARE KIT!
If you have a cat (or ten), make sure to have this mixed up and ready to go at all times! It has been a lifesaver for my cats numerous times when nothing else worked, even after a vet visit (and a huge bill)!
The Kitty Raindrop blend can be used for any condition, whether known or unknown. In one case, the vet had no idea what was wrong with my cat (even after testing), offered a bunch of meds (which we declined), and we went home $300 less. We applied a Kitty Raindrop Technique and within a half an hour, our cat was eating again after not having eaten for days.
Although this technique includes oils that seem to be contraindicated in cats, veterinarians and cat owners alike have witnessed amazing health benefits with this technique. There is documented safe and even long-term use of the KRDT in many cats with blood work and veterinary monitoring.
Mix two drops of each of the specified oils into an empty 15 ml EO bottle, then fill with V-6 (or other carrier).
To apply:
Drop 2-6 drops along the spine starting at the base of the tail and ending at the base of the head. Then with your hands, pet the oil in with a backward stroke in that same direction.
Use once or twice daily if/when needed.
For cats with arthritis or other pain, add 4 drops of copaiba to the blend.
Common Health Destroyers for Pets
The best way to keep pets healthy is to eliminate the everyday things that devastate their health the most. One of the main things that does that is synthetic fragrances found in things like:

Studies show that children can have as much as 30 times greater exposure to indoor pollutants than adults due to their smaller size and greater activity level. Now, consider these facts:

They groom themselves and each other, which means they’re ingesting the pollutant particles that have accumulated on their fur and in the environment

A study conducted by the Environmental Working Group tested 43 common chemicals found in household products, including scented ones, and discovered that dogs have higher levels of these substances in their bodies than humans do.

All things skin for pets!
We have some great options to grab when our furry friends need some skin support! These are some of my personal favorites that I've turned to most for skin issues in my animals.
Animal Scents Ointment is by far my favorite. We have saved many animals' lives with this single product. It's great for raw/open wounds as it's gentle and protective. And a much healthier option than Vaseline (a petroleum product that is carcinogenic).
I have also saved an animal's life with myrrh! I have never seen anything regenerate skin as quickly as this oil! It's also safe and gentle for open wounds.
Some skin issues need drying so when ointment isn't a good option, use Tea Tree oil.
Frankincense is always a good choice for any skin issue on people and pets! Rashes, wounds, scrapes, etc.
And for skin issues that may be getting infected, Thieves or Exodus II will get the job done! These are strong so if the wound is open, it's best to use these around but not directly in open skin.
Dog rubbing their rear end on the carpet? The need for routine anal gland expression is not normal. It signifies a root health issue and this act of expression can also cause inflammation and drive bacteria into the gland, resulting in bacterial infection and/or an abscess.
Anal gland problems in dogs are diet-related and generally caused by grains and not getting raw bones to eat. Raw bones help provide the texture needed in the digestive tract to internally express anal glands naturally.
We'll talk about a raw food diet coming up but for now, you can feel comfortable giving your dog some raw bony meat pieces to chew on. They should eat *and swallow* the bone and they will know what to do with it! (Toy breeds sometimes don't but I've seen many small toy breed dogs eat an entire raw chicken neck.)

Tummy Troubles
Whether it's from car rides or other tummy trouble, there are some great easy natural options to help our furry friends' tummy feel better!
DiGize, Peppermint, and AromaEase are our favorite options for tummy troubles and motion sickness.
AromaEase: My go-to for motion sickness. Apply topically behind the ears (on humans and pets) or use in a diffuser. (You can also place a drop or two on a cotton ball and clip with a clothespin into an air vent with the heat or a/c on.
DiGize and/or peppermint: Great for any nausea, stomach discomfort, etc. Apply topically on the belly or give a drop internally.
For pets with tummy troubles that include vomiting and/or diarrhea, use the oils internally along with some Life 9 probiotic and/or some unsweetened yogurt, kefir, etc.
Note: The standard advice for giving rice to dogs with diarrhea may do more damage than good, since dogs cannot effectively digest rice and it acts as sugar, feeding pathogenic yeast and bacteria.
There's at least one popular company out there with essential oils specifically for animals (not naming names!) but as scientist Marco Gentile explains, these random blends could have unpredictable results.
If you’re buying essential oil blends from a company who doesn’t employ scientists and doesn’t have a thorough lab, there’s no telling what the effects of the blends they create and sell to so many people for their families (and pets) could be!
“Oils not only interact with each other, but they affect different biological systems in complex and counterintuitive ways.
The truth is: Random oil mixtures typically produce random, and occasionally unwanted results. We hear about the success stories, but not so often the unfortunate reactions (“friendly fire”) that arise from well-intentioned miscellaneous mixes of oils.
Creating an essential oil blend is part art, part science, and part intuition. Gary Young was an intuitive healer who had an extraordinary gift to create life-changing blends. I did not completely share Gary’s gift, but I understood science. To help him with essential oil formulations required an understanding of both synergistic and antagonist reactions among numerous essential oils on the molecular level and the biological level.
It was almost four years before Gary gave his final blessing to my version of “Deep Relief” — an approval I thought would be close to impossible to obtain due to Gary’s perfectionist nature and the potential of unexpected interactions between various oils.
This why I start a new blend with pairs of essential oils — binary mixtures — and build up each composition one oil at a time. I confine the possibilities to a finite number so that I gain a grasp of the totality of benefits — and any unintended problems. Throwing too many different oils together can be a hit or miss proposition if improperly combined.
For this reason, proper blending requires an in depth understanding of not only essential oil chemistry but also of how each oil interacts with the different physical, cognitive, hormonal, and biological systems.
Imagine an essential oil like lavender, with 182 different compounds. How will this oil interact with German chamomile, that contains of 226 different chemical constituents? And Clove oil that contains 92? And so on?
I imagine the possibilities — and potential problems — of combining five different oils together: Such a blend could theoretically contain 370,188,000,000 possible interactions. Unnerving when you think of what can go wrong as well as what can go right.”
